How many funds can I give to in a single gift transaction?

You can designate up to five funds to support in a single gift. After entering a fund name and amount, click the “Add to Gift” button to add it to your gift. You’ll see a list of the funds you’ve added to your gift appear below the “Your Gift” heading. If you’d like to remove a fund from your gift, click the “Remove” button.

I’m typing in the name of the area I want to give to, but the form isn’t showing a match. What should I do?

The “type-ahead” search only shows matches based on fund name, you can try the Advanced search which also searches fund descriptions and keywords.

I can’t find the fund or area I want to support in the Advanced Search. Where is my fund?

While there are thousands of funds at UW Foundation, we only display a subset in our online giving search results. If you don’t find a match, just describe the fund or area you’d like to support. Our Gift Processing team will match your gift to the appropriate fund.

What happens when I choose "Support the university's greatest needs"?

When you select this option, we add the “Chancellor's Annual Fund” to the designation field. Just enter a gift amount and click “Add to Gift” to include this in your gift. Gifts to the Chancellor’s Annual Fund allow the Chancellor to support students, retain faculty, explore new research possibilities and develop innovative programs.

Can I set gift options for individual funds I’m giving to as part of this gift?

No. The gift options you set will apply to the total gift. If you’d like to set options for gifts to individual funds (e.g. a monthly gift to a single fund), you can complete and submit the giving form for each individual gift.

What happens when I choose to “Repeat this gift every month”?

We’ll deduct the total gift amount you indicated every month moving forward. You can select whether we should charge your your credit card on the 1st or the 15th of each month.

How do I indicate my gift is related to an existing pledge with UW Foundation?

Check the corresponding check box and, if you have an existing pledge that matches this gift on your donor record at UW Foundation, we’ll apply this  gift to the pledge. There’s no need for you to indicate which pledge we should apply this gift to.  If you have questions about your existing pledge balance or to set up a recurring payment to fulfill this pledge, contact our Gift Processing team at 800-443-6162 or

Can I make a recurring gift to pay off an existing pledge? The form won’t let me check both boxes.

How do I make a gift on behalf of an organization?

Select the “I'm making this gift on behalf of a corporation or organization” option and we’ll ask you to enter your Business Name in the Cardholder Info section.

My employer matches the charitable donations I make. How do I initiate this matching process?

Many employers administer their matching gift programs differently. After you make your gift, please check with your employer to learn about the exact process. You can also search our matching gifts database for more information.

What are tribute gifts?

Tribute gifts can be made to recognize or memorialize a person or pet. Select the “I'm making this gift ‘In Memory’ or ‘In Honor’ of a person, or ‘In Memory of a Pet”’

option and we’ll ask some follow-up questions about your tribute, including whether you’d like to notify an individual or family about your gift.

Why do I see a list of addresses as I type in my address?

We're showing you addresses that match those known by the US Postal Service. If your address is matched, you’ll see a green check mark near the Zip field. If the address you entered doesn’t match, you’ll see a gray check mark. If you know the address is correct, you can “certify” that it’s correct or just proceed with making your gift.

What if I’m not in the United States?

No problem. Just click the "Switch to international format" link and select the correct country. Please note: we only display matching addresses for US addresses.

What if I’m making a gift on behalf of a business or foundation?

We’ll ask you for a business name and the first and last name of the cardholder.

What types of payments do you accept?

We accept credit card payments from VISA, MasterCard, Discover and American Express branded credit and debit cards. If you’d like to make a gift using a check, please print a gift form and mail it to the address indicated on the form for secure processing.

What is the CVV Number?

The CVV Number ("Card Verification Value") on your credit card or debit card is a 3 digit number typically on the back of VISA, MasterCard and Discover branded credit and debit cards. On your American Express branded credit or debit card it is a 4 digit number, typically appearing on the front of the card.

Is my payment/personal information safe?

Yes. Your information will be sent to our card payment processor and to UW Foundation using 128 bit encryption and an SSL (secure socket layer) connection. This ensures that the information you send us stays secure as it is transferred to us.

What happens when my card expires after I’ve made a recurring gift?

Before your card expires, our card payment processor will notify UW Foundation and we’ll contact you to find out if you’d like to renew your recurring gift. If so, you’ll be able to provide us with updated card information.
